Town Twinning Project № 617620-CITIZ-1-2020-1-BG-CITIZ-TT

The town twinning project, developed by the Nikopol municipality, brought together the representatives of ten European countries for the signing of the Twinning Pact at a final meeting in the Danube city from October 3 to 8.

The project, in accordance with the objectives and priorities of the European Union and the "Europe for Citizens" program, aims to raise awareness among citizens and their active participation in the democratic life of their countries, as well as their commitment to building a Europe aimed at mutual understanding and cooperation.

The objectives pursued by the project are in line with the objectives of Strand 2 of the Europe for Citizens programme, namely:

- Promoting the exchange of good practices and cooperation between administrations and policy makers and representatives of civil society, encouraging structured dialogue between politicians and citizens;

- Acquisition of skills that can contribute to European social development with a participatory approach;

- Active participation by enabling citizens to be the main actors, promoting EU values, encouraging the exchange of views between citizens and sharing of life experiences, promoting European cooperation, taking into account local and regional aspects;

- Promotion and support of European intercultural dialogue and understanding, as a tool for social intervention and building an inclusive, tolerant and promoting society of the values of equality;

- Encouraging the participation of young people in the democratic life of the European Union.

During the visit, a total of 56 representatives of Spain, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, Slovakia and Malta got to know the sights of the municipality, the regional city and the old Bulgarian capital Tarnovo. They were received by the regional governor of the Pleven region, Ivan Petkov, and the deputy mayor of the town of Veliko Tarnovo.
